The 2nd Changchun Forum Held at Jilin University
The 2nd Changchun Forum was held on September 15 at the Qianwei Gymnasium on the Central Campus of Jilin University (JLU), bringing together experts and representatives from government, industry, universities, and research institutions.
Under the theme “University and City: Mission-Led Leadership, Integration of Sci-Tech and Industrial Innovation, Paradigm Transformation,” the forum provided a platform for discussions on university–city collaboration, scientific and technological innovation, talent development, and industrial transformation.
Gu Gang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee and Mayor of Changchun, and Tian Hui, Secretary of the CPC Jilin University Committee, attended the forum and delivered remarks. The opening ceremony was chaired by Zhang Xi, President of Jilin University.
Strengthening the Partnership Between Jilin University and Changchun
On behalf of the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee and the Changchun Municipal Government, Gu Gang congratulated Jilin University on its 80th anniversary and expressed appreciation to those who have long supported the revitalization and development of Changchun.
He noted that since its establishment, Jilin University has remained committed to serving national development through education, scientific research, technological innovation, and collaboration with industry. Over the decades, the university has grown alongside Changchun and made important contributions to the city’s development.
Highlighting the close relationship between the university and the city, Gu described their shared development with the words:
“A city has nurtured a university, and a university has illuminated a city.”
Looking ahead, he said Changchun would continue strengthening the role of science and technology and promoting deeper integration among industry, education, scientific and technological innovation, and talent development.
He also expressed the hope that Changchun and Jilin University would continue working closely together to support the comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China and contribute to the region’s long-term development.
Jilin University Reaffirms Its Commitment to Regional Development
On behalf of Jilin University and President Zhang Xi, Tian Hui expressed sincere appreciation to all those who have supported the university throughout its development.
He noted that during its 80-year history, Jilin University has remained committed to innovation, national development, and the revitalization of Northeast China. The university has educated generations of outstanding graduates and produced significant research achievements, contributing to both national progress and regional development.
Bearing the name of Jilin Province, Jilin University considers supporting the province’s comprehensive revitalization an important responsibility. The university has remained rooted in Changchun and Jilin Province while serving the nation and maintaining a global outlook.
Throughout its history, Jilin University and the region have developed together, sharing both opportunities and challenges.
Advancing Innovation, Talent and University–Industry Cooperation
Looking to the future, Tian Hui said Jilin University would continue playing an active role in supporting the development and revitalization of Northeast China.
The university will further implement its “Root-Taking Project”, focusing on attracting high-level talent, strengthening scientific and technological innovation, and accelerating the transformation of research achievements into practical and industrial applications.
JLU will also advance its “Network-Building Project” through the “Five Ones” initiative, expanding partnerships, strengthening strategic alliances, bringing together resources, and encouraging collaborative development based on complementary strengths.
In addition, the university will carry forward the “Chain-Solidifying Action” to develop a JLU-centered innovation ecosystem and expand an innovation network rooted in Changchun.
These initiatives are designed to strengthen connections among education, science and technology, talent development, innovation, and industry, while promoting closer cooperation across these areas.
Tian Hui added that Jilin University would continue developing the Changchun Forum as an important platform for cooperation among universities, government, research institutions, and industry, contributing further to the comprehensive revitalization of Jilin Province.
Leading Experts and Officials Deliver Keynote Presentations
During the keynote session, six speakers delivered presentations related to the forum’s central theme:
- Qiu Xiandong — Chairman and Party Secretary of China FAW Group Co., Ltd.
- Jiang Huifeng — Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Changchun
- Yang Zhenbin — Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
- Wang Yunpeng — President of Beihang University
- Zhang Xuejun — Director of the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Cai Lidong — Standing Committee Member of the CPC Jilin University Committee and Executive Vice President of Jilin University
Roundtable Discussions on University–City Collaboration
Following the keynote presentations, participants joined a roundtable forum focusing on two major themes.
The first explored how the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent can support high-quality and coordinated development between universities and cities.
The second focused on university–city symbiosis and industrial upgrading, examining ways to better align university-based scientific and technological innovation with the practical needs of urban industries.
Through discussions involving government, universities, research institutions, and industry leaders, the 2nd Changchun Forum further strengthened dialogue on building closer university–city partnerships and transforming academic and scientific strengths into drivers of economic and social development.
The forum also highlighted Jilin University’s continuing role in supporting innovation, talent development, industrial collaboration, and the comprehensive revitalization of Changchun, Jilin Province, and Northeast China.
