  • Introduction to MBBS Program

Ranked #1 by Ministry of Education China, the Bachelor Degree Program in Clinical Medicine (Taught in English) for International Students (MBBS) at Jilin University (JLU) represents a premier educational pathway designed to cultivate globally competitive medical professionals. Being the largest university of China, the MBBS program draws on JLU’s advantageous resources in the field of medicine and was established based on the World Health Organization (WHO)’s international standards of medical education .

Since its inception in 2005, the MBBS program has evolved into a cornerstone of JLU’s international education strategy. Over the past two decades, it has successfully cultivated over 1,000 graduates from 62 countries, creating a vast network of medical professionals practicing worldwide . Jilin University is officially recognized by the WHO, and graduates of this program are eligible to sit for medical licensing examinations globally, including the MCI (India), PMDC (Pakistan), USMLE (United States), PLAB (United Kingdom) and SLE (Saudi Arabia) . After nearly two decades of efforts, the program has formed a perfect cultivation system and taken active measures to develop an excellent English teaching faculty. In a significant administrative update, the College of Basic Medical Sciences formally undertook the training of these international students in April 2023, further refining the management and support systems for global learners .

To ensure the quality of its cultivation, JLU has actively promoted the reform of examination methods and implemented “objective structured clinical examination” (OSCE). The curriculum is specifically designed to align with medical education standards in the USA and other developed countries, utilizing the USMLE syllabus as a teaching framework . The program boasts unique high-level collaborations, including a distance medical education program with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, USA. Furthermore, JLU has introduced an English-taught continuing multidisciplinary medical education program and has brought in many overseas experts and scholars to enrich the learning experience .

The six-year program includes a one-year clinical internship. Students have the flexibility to complete this internship at JLU’s affiliated hospitals (which are top-tier 3A hospitals in China), in their home country, or in other nations, subject to university approval . In line with modern medical trends, JLU integrates artificial intelligence (AI) literacy into its medical training. Dean Wang Fang of the College of Basic Medical Sciences recently encouraged graduates to leverage the transformations brought by the AI era to serve human health, aiming to build a community with a shared future for mankind . All these efforts have achieved good results and helped cultivate numerous outstanding medical professionals ready to take the world stage.
